Interactive Visualization of Implicit Surfaces with Singularities

چکیده
This paper presents work on two methods for interactive visualization of implicit surfaces: physically-based sampling using particle systems and polygonization followed by physically-based mesh improvement which explicitly makes use of the surface-defining equation. While most previous work applied to bounded manifolds without singularities and without boundary (topological spheres) we broaden the scope of the methods to include surfaces with such features, in particular cusp points and surface self-intersections. These aspects are not (yet) essential for computer graphics modelling with implicit surfaces but they naturally occur in simulations of interest in mathematical visualization. In this paper we use the Kummer family of algebraic surfaces as an example.

Interactive Visualization of Non-Manifold Implicit Surfaces Using Pre-Integrated Volume Rendering
We present an interactive method of visualizing both manifold and non-manifold implicit surfaces. The implicit surfaces are directly visualized at interactive frame rates independent of surface complexity by the hardwareaccelerated volume rendering method. Although conventional implicit surfaces can represent only two-manifold surfaces, we have developed a technique of representing non-manifold...

Interactive tools for shape modeling with hierarchical implicit surfaces have been limited both by the high computational cost of visualization, and the lack of techniques for direct surface manipulation. To address the visualization issue, Hierarchical Spatial Caching is developed. This novel technique combines caching and spatial approximation to accelerate queries of the functional model tre...
متن کاملParsip: An Implicit Surfaces Polygonizer for Multi-Core Architectures
Implicit surfaces are a mathematical representation of objects in computer graphics which are able to create smooth surfaces that can blend with each other automatically. They provide the foundation for models that can be used in games, animation, scientific simulation and visualization. Interactive design systems that use polygonization methods for visualization of implicit surfaces have diffi...
متن کاملAdaptive Sampling of Implicit Surfaces for Interactive Modelling and Animation
This paper presents a new adaptive sampling method for implicit surfaces that can been used in both interactive modeling and animation. The algorithm samples implicit objects generated by skeletons and efficiently maintains this sampling, even when their topology changes over time such as during fractures and fusions. It provides two complementary modes of immediate visualization: displaying “s...
